What are the approved & unapproved uses of university vehicles?
You may use a university vehicle to conduct supervisor-approved departmental business. You may not use a university vehicle for any other use, including personal use.

Can I take home a university vehicle overnight if I am leaving early in the morning?
You may take a university vehicle home only if your next day planned travel is in the same direction of your home. University vehicles must be returned ASAP and never used to conduct personal business.

How do I get approved to drive a university vehicle? Why would I be declined?
To be approved your department head must submit two forms annually: (1) DA2054 (Authorization and Driving History Form) and (2) Request for Travel Authorization Form.
Unless overturned by the Chancellor, any “High-Risk” driver will not be allowed to drive a university vehicle nor will that employee be allowed to drive his/her personal vehicle for university business.
A “High-Risk” driver is defined as:
- An individual who has three (3) or more convictions, guilty pleas and/or nolo contendere pleas for moving violations in a single year, or
- An individual who has a single conviction, guilty plea or nolo contendere plea for operating a vehicle intoxicated, hit and run driving, vehicular negligent injury, reckless operation of a vehicle or similar violation within a single year.
